Where is Future Ink in the Bay Area?
Future Ink is at 5251 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94618 — Temescal/Rockridge, on Broadway between Piedmont Avenue and College Avenue. The studio's location is one of the most accessible in the Bay Area for tattoo clients:
-
From San Francisco: BART from Embarcadero, Civic Center, or Montgomery → Rockridge (about 20 minutes) → 5-minute walk south on College Ave → right on Broadway. Total transit time from downtown SF is under 45 minutes.
-
From Berkeley: 10 minutes south on College Ave or 15 minutes by AC Transit bus.
-
From the East Bay (Alameda, San Leandro, Castro Valley): 20–25 minutes via 580 or 880.
-
From Walnut Creek / Lamorinda: Highway 24 → 35–40 minutes.
-
From Marin County: Richmond Bridge → I-580 → about 45 minutes outside peak traffic.
Street and lot parking are available on Broadway and nearby side streets. Most clients prefer BART (Rockridge station) on weekdays.
What does the Bay Area tattoo scene look like?
The Bay Area has one of the densest concentrations of tattoo studios in the United States. Studios divide roughly into three buckets:
-
Generalist legacy studios — long-running shops that work in many styles (Old Crow Berkeley, Bell & Iron Oakland, Temple Tattoo 13 Oakland, Pretty In Ink, Sacred Tattoo Oakland). Best if you want a traditional or broad-style piece from an experienced studio.
-
Specialist signature studios — shops built around a clear aesthetic lane (Future Ink for heavy blackwork / Japanese geometry / blackout; Black Serum SF for fine line and blackwork; Dark Water Berkeley for marbling-influenced blackwork). Best if you know the specific style you want and want a studio that owns that lane.
-
Single-artist private studios — solo artists working from private appointment-only spaces. Best if you've already chosen one specific artist.
Future Ink is firmly in category 2 — specialized signature, not generalist. If you want heavy blackwork, Japanese geometry, blackout, or sacred geometry, this is what we built the studio around.
What styles does Future Ink offer in the Bay Area?
Our three signature lanes:
-
Heavy blackwork tattoos — dense black ink, sculptural and dramatic
-
Japanese geometry tattoos — Japanese tradition meets sacred geometry, a hybrid style developed in-house
-
Blackout tattoos — full-arm, full-sleeve, and large-scale blackout, including cover-ups
Across our eight resident artists, we also work in blackwork, sacred geometry, Japanese / Neo Japanese, ornamental, dotwork, fine line, illustrative, floral, full color, realism, anime / manga, cyberpunk, esoteric, suminagashi, and large-scale body suits.
How much does a tattoo cost in the Bay Area?
Bay Area tattoo pricing in 2026 generally runs:
-
Small pieces (1–2 hours): $200–$500
-
Medium pieces (3–5 hours): $500–$1,500 per session
-
Large-scale work (sleeves, back pieces, blackouts): $200–$300 per hour, priced per session of 3–6 hours
-
Touch-ups within 6 months: typically free or discounted
Future Ink pricing falls in the standard Bay Area range. We do not undercut on price for specialty work (heavy blackwork, Japanese geometry, blackout) because those styles require senior-artist time. A non-refundable deposit via Zelle secures the appointment and is credited toward the final cost.
For full detail by style and shop minimum, see our 2026 Bay Area tattoo cost guide.

How do I book a tattoo at Future Ink from San Francisco or the wider Bay Area?
Booking is the same regardless of where in the Bay Area you're coming from:
-
Email info@futureink.co with reference images and your idea
-
Call (510) 200-8065
-
Submit the contact form
Most artists also accept consultations through Instagram — handles are on each artist's page. If you're traveling from San Francisco, Marin, or Walnut Creek, mention that in your inquiry and we can usually batch your consultation and first session into a single trip to minimize travel.
What makes Future Ink different from other Bay Area tattoo shops?
Three things:
-
Specialized lane. We aren't trying to do every style. We're built around heavy blackwork, Japanese geometry, and blackout — three styles where Bay Area options are limited. If you want one of those, we are the studio. If you want a different style, we have specialist resident artists for it rather than generalists.
-
Transit-friendly Oakland location. 5 minutes from Rockridge BART means SF and Berkeley clients can come without a car. The 5251 Broadway corridor is calm, parking is available, and the neighborhood is safe.
-
Supply business in the same shop. Future Ink is also a tattoo supply company — we design needles and inks for our own work and sell to other pros. That dual model means our resident artists are tied closer to the materials side of the craft than most studios.
